Product description:The Bendigo-Mitiamo Gravity Survey recorded 8050 new gravity stations north of Bendigo in north-central Victoria. The data were recorded along roads and tracks to infill pre-existing post-1979 data and reduce the gravity station interval from approximately 1.5 km to 500 m. The data were collected by Fugro Ground Geophysics Pty Ltd (Fugro) using GPS positioning during May to September 2007. A summary of the survey metadata is provided in Appendix 1 and the complete operations and processing report in Appendix 2. The Bendigo-Mitiamo Gravity Survey was conducted under DPI’s Gold Undercover Initiative, which aims to deliver new geoscience insights and techniques, and to stimulate exploration and research into potential gold resources presently concealed under cover. The survey targets an area of the Bendigo Zone (between the Mount William and Avoca Faults) under Cainozoic cover and north of the Bendigo Goldfield. The Bendigo Goldfield has produced at least 560 tonnes (19.7 million ounces) of primary gold (Olshina & Lisitsin, 2007) and 156 tonnes (5.5 million ounces) of alluvial gold (Edwards, et al., 1999).
