Product description:

This report represents the first in a series of three Gold Undercover initiative reports to address the understanding of alteration haloes surrounding central Victorian orogenic gold deposits. It is restricted to the examination of primary alteration in fresh diamond drill core and underground samples because an understanding of primary systems is required before undertaking an assessment of secondary dispersion. Accordingly, secondary alteration effects, using weathered drill core and outcrop samples as well as some cover samples, will be presented in a second companion report. Although the current report addresses the application of hyperspectral mineralogical methods to the identification of alteration in fresh rocks in a limited way, a more comprehensive assessment of this approach will be provided by a third report on HyloggingTM devoted specifically to this question.

This report specifically aims to facilitate the use of lithogeochemistry in exploration programs. For simplicity, the amount of text has been kept to a minimum and tables have been used to summarise important observations. The essence of the report is contained in a series of spreadsheets that provide geochemical data and reference charts for each of the deposits investigated, as well as for background samples and quality control data. These have been designed to allow explorationists to import and directly compare their own geochemical data to reference data sets from the following deposits: Ballarat East, Bendigo, Castlemaine, Costerfield, Fosterville, Maldon and Wildwood. The spreadsheet containing quality control data can also be used to calculate sampling and analytical uncertainties. All raw data and location information collected in the course of this investigation are also provided in spreadsheet format, allowing companies to undertake their own interpretation of the data.

Download The downloadable version of this report is supplied in PDF format. Appendices are also downloadable as a ZIP file.
