Abstract This report presents an appraisal of new detailed airborne magnetic and radiometric data obtained over the Yea 1:100 000 mapsheet in central Victoria. The survey was flown during 1997, for the Geological Survey of Victoria (GSV), as part of the Victorian Initiative for Minerals and Petroleum. The Yea survey data were acquired by Geo Instruments Pty Ltd using a helicopter mounted system. The flight lines were east-west with a line spacing of 200 m and flying height of 80 m. The magnetic, radiometric and digital terrain model data are available in hardcopy and digital format.

The most extensive rock types on the Yea 1:100 000 mapsheet are Silurian and Devonian sediments, Devonian granites and Quaternary Volcanics. The sediments are non to weakly magnetic with weakly to moderately magnetic marker beds. Radiometrically distinct units within the sediments are also present. Non-magnetic granites and reversely magnetised basalts are readily identified in the magnetic data.

The radiometric data defines the outcrop extent of different rock units, and highlights possible compositional variations within the Silurian and Devonian sediments. Compositional variations within the granites and volcanics are also clearly visible.

The northwest structural grain on the Yea 1:100 000 mapsheet is apparent in the magnetic and radiometric data.

Individual flows of the Newer Volcanics can be identified by their different magnetic character and radiometric responses.
