Product description:AbstractDrilling by Providence Gold and Minerals Pty Ltd (PGM) in 2009 with the support of the Rediscover Victoria Drilling Initiative (Round 2) was successful in locating anomalous gold in basement sediments. Low level gold mineralisation occurs in quartz veined sediments of the Castlemaine Group underlying Murray Basin sediments cover. Sixty-six AirCore drill holes for a total of 7053 metres were completed within EL4525 west of Mitiamo as part of the Rediscover Victoria Drilling Initiative (Round 3). The AirCore program was designed to test several target areas, viz:
All but one AirCore drill holes successfully intersected Ordovician basement sediments underlying up to 125 metres of Murray Basin sediments. Anomalous gold (>0.2 ppm) was intersected in 10 holes, with the highest intersection in hole FE328 which returned 6 metres at 29 g/t gold from 123 metres. This intersection is supported by a further 6 metres at 4.4 g/t from 135 metres down hole. Hole FE380 returned 3 metres at 7.9 g/t gold from 10 metres at the basement-cover contact. Anomalous arsenic (to 2600 ppm) was found peripheral to anomalous gold in Target Area 1. Results of the AirCore drilling program point to the existence in this area of significant gold mineralisation in Ordovician basement in up to 3 trends - from 3.5 km long and possibly as long as 9 km long. Further work is planned to map out these anomalous areas by infill AirCore drilling in preparation for a diamond drill program.
