Introduction Several rock samples were collected from the Glenelg Zone of western Victoria by George Gibson, with the aim of dating them using the SHRIMP (Sensitive High Resolution Ion Microprobe) at the Research School of Earth Sciences, ANU, Canberra. U/Pb ages were determined on zircons. This record documents details of the samples dated and their localities, and discusses the geological significance of the dates obtained. Localities are given as Australian Map Grid AGD66, and the 1:100 000 topographic map sheet they occur in is also given.

Samples are given VAD (Victorian Age Determination) numbers, as well as field numbers. A magmatic age was sought for igneous samples, while metasedimentary rocks had detrital zircons dated. Errors on igneous ages are 2σ.

Outcrop in the Glenelg Zone is dominated by metamorphic and plutonic rocks of the Glenelg Metamorphic Complex. This complex was formed by metamorphism and complex deformation during the Cambro-Ordovician Delamerian Orogeny (Gray et al. 2002, Kemp et al., 2002). The precursors to the metamorphosed rocks are thought to be ?Early Cambrian quartz wackes and shales of the Moralana Supergroup and the Truro Volcanics of similar age (VandenBerg et al. 2000). These rocks crop out in the far west of the zone. Plutonic rocks (mostly granitic) include early syncompressional, late syn-compressional and post-compressional types (Kemp et al. 2002).
