Product description:

Introduction:
A field trial using revolutionary new drilling technology was undertaken between May and June 2017 in the northeast part of the Stavely Project area near Horsham, western Victoria.

Key findings:
The program allowed the Deep Exploration Technology Cooperative Research Centre to test the RoXplorer® in poorly consolidated Murray Basin sedimentary cover sequences. The sequences for the large part overlie the Cambrian-aged Stavely Arc, a series of concealed volcanic belts which are known to host precious and base metal occurrences where (poorly) exposed at surface to the south.

For the Geological Survey of Victoria the field trial represented a mutually beneficial opportunity to evaluate new mineral exploration drilling technology that has the potential to benefit mineral explorers, local landholders and regional communities by providing a safer, more cost and time efficient exploration drilling technique with a reduced environmental footprint.

The drilling rates achieved by the RoXplorer® are four times faster than the rates achieved by previous drilling in the region (approximately 15 m per shift). The coiled tubing drill rate approached 100 m per shift when the bottom of hole assembly was appropriately ‘tuned’ for cover material.

The field trial resulted in additional stratigraphic information and geochemical data from the Dimboola Belt. Summaries of data acquisition from the field trial are provided herein. Digital datasets are appended to this report.
