Abstract This report provides a summary of mineral exploration undertaken within the Wangaratta 1:250 000 map area, northeastern Victoria, since the Exploration Licence (EL) reporting system was introduced in 1965. Since that time, 120 ELs have expired within the area. A total of 103 expired ELs are described in this report. The balance of ELs are not described due to a variety of reasons, including non submission of reports, reports not available in the Departmental Library, entire work programs conducted outside the map area or exploration data still confidential due to ongoing licences in the area. The report provides detailed summaries of the exploration conducted in each expired EL including exploration targets, geochemical sampling programs, period when tenement was held, tenement location, tenement geology, drilling and geophysical survey information obtained from EL reports submitted to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment. Tables and maps within the Appendices provide a further synthesis of the mineral exploration history of the Wangaratta 1:250 000 map area. Tables summarise the geochemical and drilling programs conducted in the ELs, period when tenement was held, expenditure levels, overview of the work conducted and key exploration targets. Maps indicate the position of the EL boundaries. Modern exploration within the Wangaratta 1:250 000 map area has focussed mainly at locating alluvial and primary gold mineralisation, principally in areas of old workings, as well as previously unexplored areas.
