Abstract This report documents the results of geochemical analyses and burial history reconstructions from Late Cretaceous sediments in 11 Victorian wells and 4 South Auatralian wells sampled as part of the VIMP Otway Basin project.

Although additional company source rock data exists, the compilation of data presented here is believed to give a reasonable overview of the hydrocabon source potential of the Late Cretaceous.

Based on the VIMP analysed samples, the potential of the Late Cretaceous source rocks to generate oil and gas within the Otway Basin is generally lower than that of older rocks, although some organically rich horizons exist, especially towards the Voluta Trough and South Australia.

Gas-prone macerals usually predominate in rocks of this age. Nevertheless, oil-prone macerals tend to be more abundant in the thicker, marginally-mature, Early P. mawsonii zone of the Voluta and Shipwreck Troughs.
