A compilation of Victorian rock density data has been carried out in order to update the GeoScience Victoria(GSV) petrophysics database. The database now comprises 1235 values, incorporating over 50 separate rock types, comprising:

  • 41 measurements from the pre-existing database
  • 460 new measurements carried out at the Werribee Core Library
  • 734 externally sourced measurements from literature, EL reports and other company sources
Statistical analysis has been carried out for various rock types on a state wide scale, a structural zone scale, and on specific formations. Other externally sourced data lacking location information is presented in the appendices, but has not been included in the analysis of results, and will not be entered into the database.

The report provides a quick reference to density property information for Victoria, in particular providing constraints for the forward modelling and inversion of gravity data.
