Product description:Download The downloadable version of this report is supplied in PDF format. Introduction In the course of Seamless Geology Project, GeoScience Victoria has remapped parts of the Melbourne Zone in central Victoria, and attempted to rationalize the stratigraphic names that have been applied to various units on different published geological maps over the last 50 years. The Melbourne Zone, although strictly speaking a Palaeozoic structure, here refers to the entire area of Victoria that is underlain by this Zone, including younger cover rocks. This report documents the changes we have made to geological units and their names, including new names, discontinued names and significant changes to the definitions of pre-existing units. The name changes are set out in order of age, with the main groupings being Palaeozoic, Mesozoic and Cainozoic. Those units that have kept their stratigraphic names and definitions, as published in previous GeoScience Victoria maps and reports, and in other publications, are not dealt with.
