Oil and Gas Resources of Victoria - Gippsland Basin
| ||||||||||||||||
Product description:Executive Summary The Gippsland Basin, located largely offshore of Eastern Victoria, is the most prolific hydrocarbon province in Australia. Oil production peaked in 1985 at about 500kbd or 90% of the total Australian crude oil output that year. Of more than 4 billion barrels(BSTB) of estimated initial oil and condensate reserves and 9.8 trillion cubic feet (TSCF) of initial sales gas reserves in the developed fields, more than 86% and 49% respectively, had been produced by the end of June 1998. There are many fields with substantial oil and gas reserves yet to be developed. As with all worldclass hydrocarbon provinces, the Gippsland Basin will have further oil and gas discoveries in the future. However very little information is available in the public domain about the characteristics and resources of the basin. This publication has therefore been prepared to meet industry's need for reliable information about the petroleum resources in Victoria. This will also be of use to various government agencies with an interest in petroleum resources. The material presented here includes an introduction to the prospective basins in Victoria, their geological evolution and other geological information. A compilation of oil and gas production from developed fields and of reserves in undeveloped fields, the potential of future oil and gas discoveries, and a review of production history follow. Data for individual fields include structure maps, geological cross sections and field production profiles. A conversion table and a table of abbreviations used in the document have also been included for reference at the end. Download The downloadable version of this report is supplied in PDF format.
